Drowning statistics

  • In the US, an average of 3,500-4,000 people drown per year. That is an average of 10 fatal drownings per day.
  • Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages 1-4.
  • Children 5 to 17 years old are more likely to drown in natural water, such as rivers, ponds, or lakes.
  • Globally, the highest drowning rates are among children 1–4 years, followed by children 5–9 years.

AquaINFANT Swim Class

This is a parent/child program for children 6 months to 2 years old. Parents are in the water, guiding their child in learning skills such as floating on their back, breath control, and finding the wall. This class teaches the child basic water comfort, swimming foundations, and safety techniques. These lessons are not only a wonderful bonding activity but provide parents with tools to further their child's swimming abilities on their own.


  • Children 6 months to 2 years old
  • 30-minutes per lesson in the Recreation Pool
  • NOTE: Parents must plan on being in the water with their child during each swim lesson
  • Student-to-instructor ratio is 6:1
