Drowning statistics
- In the US, an average of 3,500-4,000 people drown per year. That is an average of 10 fatal drownings per day.
- Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages 1-4.
- Children 5 to 17 years old are more likely to drown in natural water, such as rivers, ponds, or lakes.
- Globally, the highest drowning rates are among children 1–4 years, followed by children 5–9 years.
AquaINFANT Swim Class
This is a parent/child program for children 6 months to 2 years old. Parents are in the water, guiding their child in learning skills such as floating on their back, breath control, and finding the wall. This class teaches the child basic water comfort, swimming foundations, and safety techniques. These lessons are not only a wonderful bonding activity but provide parents with tools to further their child's swimming abilities on their own.

- NOTE: Parents must plan on being in the water with their child during each swim lesson

AquaTODDLER Learn-to-be-Safe Swim Class
This Red Cross based class is for children 2-5 years old. Students learn skills such as floating on their back, blowing bubbles, bobbing, breath control, submerging head/face, jumping into deeper water, finding the wall, treading water, learning how to roll from back to front, front and back glide, treading water, combining arm and leg actions on front and back, rotary breathing, holding their breath, using pool ladders, etc. This class teaches the child basic water comfort, swimming foundations, and safety techniques.

- NOTE: Parents must accompany their child to each lesson and be IN THE POOL with their child!

AquaBEGIN Learn-to-Swim Class
This Red Cross based class if for children with no prior lessons or experience but who have had exposure to the water. It’s designed to get them comfortable placing their heads underwater, bobbing, breath control, treading water, kicking, learning the beginnings of swimming with their face in the water, and independent propulsion, thus increasing comfort level. It also begins training students in body position and breathing, which are the two most important fundamentals of swimming.

AquaINTERMEDIATE Stroke Development Swim Class
This Red Cross based class is for children who have experience in a lesson setting, such as school, have prior swimming experience, and are able to swim, take a breath, and continue swimming with their face in the water. Students will begin to learn the fundamentals of swimming freestyle and backstroke with a strong emphasis on kicking and treading water. Breaststroke and butterfly will be introduced. Open front and back turns on the wall. Age range will vary in this class.

AquaADVANCED Stroke Refinement Swim Class
This Red Cross based class is for children who have exposure to swimming all four strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly). Students will continue learning breaststroke and butterfly and continue refining their freestyle and backstroke skills. Students will learn freestyle and backstroke flip turns, lean surface tuck and pike dives, and advanced treading water skills. Age range will vary in this class.
